Sing a Justice Song. #blacklivesmatter #brownlivesmatter

Dear Community,

In less than two weeks, two grand juries failed to indict police officers who killed unarmed men. In months, more and more cases of unarmed killings by police officers emerge. For hundreds of years, countless black and brown bodies have been slaughtered.

Coming up with words to capture all the feelings, thoughts, and ideas I have are impossible right now. I am heartbroken, angry, exhausted, and trapped.
This pain is not new. This struggle is not new. Amidst all the pain, I am also inspired, motivated, strengthened and I feel loved.

We cannot remain silent

People are out in the streets, in schools, and at home speaking out. This movement is a reminder that our voices need to be louder and our actions grander.

The concept for BoomShake was and is born out of a need to express music  as a tool for our survival, of recognizing and honoring our cultural differences, and to create a platform to build community.

We cannot remain inactive

A lot of our families and communities are over strained and exhausted as we try to navigate a system that exploits our power, a system that pits us against one another, a system that does not recognize our right to freedom

As hopeless as it may feel, we MUST continue to sing, dance, drum, and love.

We cannot standby

And watch our brothers and sisters die.

“Colorful demonstrations and weekend marches are vital but alone are not powerful enough to stop wars. Wars will be stopped only when soldiers refuse to fight, when workers refuse to load weapons onto ships and aircraft, when people boycott the economic outposts of Empire that are strung across the globe. ”
Arundhati Roy,

Public Power in the Age of Empire

I am speaking up and taking action by:
  • Fiercely continuing the work I was born to do (Facilitating art and restorative practices with my community)
  • Supporting Corporate Boycotts AND supporting independent Black and Brown Businesses
  • Engaging in dialogue with various communities about the issues
Here are some resources for speaking out and taking action:
Much Love,
